In this article, the writer seeks to present a brief overview of the arrival of the first angels message represented in Revelation 14:6-7 To do this the writer will use references from the Bible and spirit of prophecy.
Revelation 14:6-7: And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
What does this text mean?
A Great religious awakening under the proclamation of Christ’s soon coming is foretold in the prophecy of the first angel’s message of Rev 14. An angel is seen flying “in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people.” “With a loud voice” he proclaims the message: “Fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His judgment is come: and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” Vs. 6, 7.
The message itself sheds light as to the time when this movement is to take place. It is declared to be a part of the “everlasting gospel;” and it announces the opening of the judgment. The message of salvation has been preached in all ages; but this message is a part of the gospel which could be proclaimed only in the last days, for only then would it be true that the hour of judgment had come. The prophecies present a succession of events leading down to the opening of the judgment. This is especially true of the book of Daniel. But that part of his prophecy which related to the last days, Daniel was bidden to close up and seal “to the time of the end.” Not till we reach this time could a message concerning the judgment be proclaimed, based on the fulfillment of these prophecies. But at the time of the end, says the prophet, “many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Dan 12:4. The Great Controversy, 355.
As we see in the above statement the prophecies present a succession of events pointing us to the time of the opening of the judgment which is also connected with the time of the end and the increase of knowledge.
Note: This is especially true of the book of Daniel. But that part of his prophecy which related to the last days, Daniel was bidden to close up and seal “to the time of the end.” Not till we reach this time could a message concerning the judgment be proclaimed, based on the fulfillment of these prophecies. But at the time of the end, says the prophet, “many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Daniel 12:4
Here we see a book sealed until the time of the end
Daniel 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
Now we ask, when is the time of the end, and what event marks this point…
Daniel 11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
Here we see that the time of the end is marked in Daniel 11:40 with the battle between the King of the North and the King of the South.
SPIRIT OF PROPHECY EVIDENCE FOR BATTLE BETWEEN “K.O.N” AND “K.O.S”
The forty and two months are the same as the “time and times and the dividing of time,” three years and a half, or 1260 days, of Daniel 7,—the time during which the papal power was to oppress God’s people. This period, as stated in preceding chapters, began with the establishment of the papacy, A. D. 538, and terminated in 1798. At that time, when the papacy was abolished and the pope made captive by the French army, the papal power received its deadly wound, and the prediction was fulfilled, “He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity.” The Great Controversy (1888), 439.
The writer will now conclude that though the study not being comprehensive yet there is sufficient proof to say that all the events pointing to 1798 as the time of the end also establishes the same point for the opening of the book and the increase of knowledge thus we see the arrival of the first angels message 1798.
But since 1798 the book of Daniel has been unsealed, knowledge of the prophecies has increased, and many have proclaimed the solemn message of the judgment near. The Great Controversy,356.
