I believe that too much importance cannot be attached to this subject as it pertains to a precious and common accommodity available to all in one state or the other. Therefore, no excuse is valuable nor is acceptable for any negligence on our side that will prevent us from gaining a thorough knowledge on its uses, benefits and contraindications. As a people who profess to be looking for the coming of the Lord, and preparing for the great crisis ahead, we ought to make the preparation necessary to equip ourselves with the needed tools to honour and to glorify our master by all possible means.
Not yet convince that it is important for you to have knowledge on this subject? Here are a few quotes from the prophet of the Lord:
“Why need anyone to be ignorant of God’s remedies- hot water fomentations and cold and hot compresses. It is important to become familiar with the benefit of dieting in the case of sickness.” 2 SM pg. 290
“There are many ways of practicing the healing art; but there is only one way that Heaven approves. God’s remedies are the simple agencies of nature that will not tax or debilitate the system through their powerful properties. Pure air and water, cleanliness, a proper diet, purity of life, and a firm trust in God, are remedies for the want of which thousands are dying; yet these remedies are going out of date because their skillful use requires work that the people do not appreciate.” CD pg. 301.
So far we have seen that there is really one way of practicing the art of healing that is approved by heaven and as it is our aim to please and glorify our maker and not self I deem it of utmost importance to be able to use this remedy. Wouldn’t you agree?
What is Hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy is the use of water (hot, cold, steam, or ice) to treat a disease or to maintain health. In order for you to use hydrotherapy effectively there are some physiological effects of hot and cold on the body that you would need to understand:
HEAT
General
Primary: excitant
Short: depressant by atonic reaction
Prolonged: mixed, excitant, and depressant
Special:
Skin: Action, increase activity
Reaction: diminished activity
Diminished sensibility
Heart: First slowed, then quickened decreases forced
Vessels: Action, contraction, and then dilation
Reaction, contraction
Lowered toned-paralysis. Local hyperemia, collateral anemia, collateral hyperemia
With reaction, local anemia, collateral hyperemia
Short, reflex fluxion and derivatives effects
Nerves: Excites
Depresses by atonic reaction
Muscles: Short, lessening fatigue effects
Prolonged, diminished capacity, excitability
Lungs: Quickens and facilitates respiration
Diminished amount of respired air
Decrease CO 2
Diminished respiratory quotient
Stomach: Decrease HCI and motor activity
Kidneys: renders anemic and lessens activity
COLD
Primary: depressant
Short: excitant by tonic reaction
Prolonged: depressant
Special
Skin: Action, diminished activity
Reaction: increased activity
Diminished sensibility
Heart: First quicken, then slowed
Increased force
Vessels: Action, contraction
Reaction, dilation
Increased tone and activity
Local anemia, collateral hyperemia
With reaction, local hyperemia, collateral anemia
Short, reflex dilation of visceral vessels
Nerves: Benumbs and paralyzes
Excites by tonic reaction
Muscles: Short, increased excitability and capacity
Prolonged, lessened excitability, capacity
Lungs: Slows and deepens respiration
Increased amount of respired air
Increased CO2
Increased respiratory quotient
Stomach: Increased HCL and motor activity
Kidneys: congests and excites
This is where we will stop for today. I hope that as we go through our study, you will learn more and will be able to use it for your benefit and that of others.
