As the days, weeks, months and years passes by into eternity; so arrives and passes the various kingdoms that hold supreme rule in the world. Like many today trying to hold on to the day-present, fearing what tomorrow will bring; so we find the various kings of these kingdoms trying to maintain and prolong the glory of the kingdom in which they rule. However, “they have setteth up their idols in their heart and putteth the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face” not recognizing “that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.” (Ezekiel 14:7; Daniel 4:25).
The Assyrian kingdom
According to Ezekiel 31:1-6 the Assyrian kingdom once held universal sway, however, in the year 625 B.C the countries of Media, Babylon and Egypt revolted all at once against the Assyrian king Assure-Bani- Pal. While he himself subdued the revolt in Media and Egypt he sent his trusted general Nabopolassar to bring Babylon into subjection. Both were successful and Nabopolassar who performed his task so well was honoured with the title ‘King of Babylon’.

Three years later there was another revolt in 612 BC on the part of the same countries, led out by Nabopolassar in which Nineveh, the capital city, was made a heap of ruins and the Assyrian empire divided into three (3) great divisions – Media holding the northeast and the extreme North, Babylon holding Elam and all the plains and the valleys of the Euphrates and the Tigris. During this time there was an alliance made between Babylon and Media through the marriage of Amyitis, the daughter of the king of Media to Nebuchadnezzar, his son. In accordance to the alliance formed against Assyria, Pharaoh Necho, King of Egypt went to battle against the king of Assyria in the year 609 BC when Josiah King of Judah went out against him and was slain at Megiddo (2 kings 23:29; 2 chronicles 35:20).

As he gained by conquest all the western territory the king of Egypt removed Shallum, the fourth son of Josiah, and appointed Eliakim, the second son, whose name he changed to Jehoiakim and laid tax to the land (1 Chronicles 3:15; Jeremiah 22:11). Not long after however, in the year 607 BC, Nabopolassar associated Nebuchadnezzar with himself as king and sent him on an expedition in invasion of Egypt during which Daniel 1:1 was fulfilled. In the year 606 however, Pharaoh-Necho retaliated against Babylon but went no further than to Carchemish as he was met by Nebuchadnezzar where he was overcome and put to flight (Jeremiah 46:1-10; 2 kings 24:5-7).

Marriage Alliance

In life it is important to recognize one’s golden moment as this could be the once in a lifetime opportunity that could bring you to the place of Eminence. This King Nabopolassar recognized when he intervene ask both the Median and Lydian king to come to an agreement out of respect to the gods whom he claimed had manifested their displeasure by darkening the sun during their battle. This agreement was accomplished by a marriage alliance. This act however, strengthened the kingdom of Babylon over the two (2) named kingdoms and later the world through his son Nebuchadnezzar at Carchemish.

Through this work, we can clearly see the role the Papacy will play in the affair of Russia and America that will not only give him power and control over these two (2) strong countries but, over the world also. Therefore, one could conclude that a phenomenon event will occur that will give him the golden moment to play the mediator and the solution to the effect.

Next on the throne was Evil-Merodach and as his name was, so was his character. The only important act recorded of him was that of raising Jehoiachin, his companion, in prison to his fellowship once more. He was later conspired against and killed at the end of his second year. Chief among his conspires was his sister’s husband Neriglissar, who was his successor. Neriglissar reigned for four (4) years of which he spent three (3) in preparation for war while forming and renewing old alliance, during this fierce battle he was slain. It is noteworthy that in his first year, Media revolted and joined with Persia. Laborosoarchod, who spent only nine (9) months on the throne, was conspired against by his own people due to his vile and flagitious behaviour in the year 556 B.C.

Next on the throne of the Babylonians in the year 555 B.C. was a man of rank Nabonadius by name, who in the first year of his reign enter into an alliance with the king of Lydia; who was on the eve of a war with the rapidly rising power of Media Persia. Without waiting on the Babylonian king for help, the king of Lydia entered into battle with the Persians and was overrun. Though Nadonadius did not have the opportunity to battle, his act of alliance with Lydia was held as a cause of war against him. This did not occur until fourteen (14) years later when the Babylonian kingdom was later destroyed under his son Belshazzar, who had started co-reigning with him.  Accordingly, in Daniel chapter seven (7) it is recorded that “In the first year of Belshazzar”, Daniel was given the great vision predicting the eventual overthrow of Babylon through strife.

The next beast on throne was that of a Bear with three (3) ribs in its mouth. Thus, it can be applied, if the reader chose to do that. When the Medes and the Persians empire overthrew Babylon he took the kingdom from Nadonadius, Belshazzar and Daniel who was made the third ruler in Daniel chapter 5:29-31. Similarly, Daniel was given a vision in the third year of Belshazzar’s reign as recorded in the eighth chapter of Daniel which at this time started with the reign of the kingdom of the Medes and Persians which denotes that in the eyes of the unseen watcher, the Babylonian is diminish.

It is interesting to note that in chapter two (2) of Daniel, the image of the vision that Nebuchadnezzar had was represented as gold which denotes his rule as king.  Likewise, we can see a fit representation of the Babylonian kingdom under the reign of Belshazzar “The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man’s heart was given to it”.
